1990’S

NOTABLE FACTS & EVENTS:

Here are some things that have already hit this decade that have been notable:

Harry Potter

JK Rowling bursts into the literary world with the first book of what would become the world-wide phenomenon story of a wizard boy and the struggle between good and evil. This would, of course, go on to be made into a major blockbuster film franchise, theme park attractions, and several spinoff books and properties.

“Supersize Me”

Fast food giant McDonalds introduces a new way to get more ‘Value’ out of your value meal. If a large fry and a large drink just wasn’t enough, you could simply say the phrase “Supersize me” and everything would get 20% larger! Maybe not the greatest for your waistline, but it certainly was the best way to get the biggest bang for your buck.

Beanie Babies!

The collectible world got a lot cuter and cuddlier when these tiny beanbag characters came on the scene. People went nuts trying to collect them all, and some paid top dollar for some of the rarest. How many of you had your own collection? And be honest… how many of you STILL DO?

Amazon—more than just a bookstore

The online book seller branches out into other products making it a full-on retailer.

‘Mmmbop’ by Hanson

The brother trio makes their way into everyone’s home with their made up phrase that becomes the hit of the decade… good luck not singing it the rest of the day!

MOPS launches

Early in the 90’s, Northeast sees a need for community for mothers of preschool children. A chance to meet together, engage in ministry, and connect over the specific needs/challenges they face. MOPS is still an active and thriving ministry here.

Northeast is Growing

The church family is growing… literally… our first major expansion to our campus makes space for our elementary school children. The Elementary Ministry Building was added in 1996. Since that point, we have been able to jump, dance, sing, teach, and minister to hundreds of children, showing them the love of Christ!
