We live in a replacement culture.

If something breaks, we replace it. Often times it’s easier just to move on or start over than to do the hard work of restoring what’s been broken. And maybe that’s why we work so hard to hide our own brokenness. We cover our faults and we hide our flaws because we are certain that if people saw us for who we really were they wouldn’t embrace us.

But the story of the Scriptures is one of restoration, not replacement. God, it would seem, is not like us. Reading through the pages of Scripture you find that God is a master restorer, taking broken vessels and turning them into priceless works of art – each with a story worth re-telling.

On Easter Sunday we kick off a 5-week series by turning our eyes to a God who has the power to restore the ultimate brokenness. Easter proves God’s power over brokenness in the resurrection of the broken body of a broken Savior. Proving that even brokenness has value in the masters hands the Scriptures remind us that “by Hiswounds we are healed.” The very thing designed to break Christ’s body was used by God to redeem His people. At the cross God exchanged death for life and through the resurrection He promises wholeness even for our brokenness.
